Bruce W. Small, is a practicing restorative dentist from Lawrenceville, New Jersey concentrating on clinical excellence. Dr. Small is an associate professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and with other members of his study club mentors a cast and direct gold selective/elective at UMDNJ for senior dental students. He has been granted the honor of a fellowship in both the International and American College of Dentists and is a master of the Academy of General Dentistry.  He is an advisor to the board of directors of the L.D. Pankey Institute where he is also a teaching associate.  Dr Small is the editor of the restorative dentistry column in General Dentistry, the journal of the Academy of General Dentistry.  He is a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, The American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, The American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, and is currently president of The Academy of Richard V. Tucker Cast Gold Study Clubs.

He has published over 100 articles in dental journals, lectured in over 300 locations in the United States and other countries, and is recognized as one of the top 100 speakers in dentistry.  He recently was voted one of the top general dentists in New Jersey as well as one of the best dentists in America by his peers.

            Material choice - indications

            Direct gold, amalgam, direct composite (anterior and

        posterior, indirect ceramic inlays and onlays, and cast gold) 

            Optical impressions (Cerec, D4D, 3M optical scanner, I-Tero) 

11:00 AM  Direct composite hands-on

            Anatomy of teeth – drawing exercises

            Contact areas of  all teeth 

12:00 Noon Lunch   

1:00  PM  Anterior layering exercise (Hands-on)

              Craze line

              Posterior direct composites

3:00 – 5:00 PM   Lecture on porcelain veneers and hands-on

Saturday May 8  

8:00 AM  Complete veneer hands-on

9:00 Lecture and video on indirect all ceramic restorations

       Comparison of available systems

9:30 AM  Hands-on for all ceramic inlays,onlays, crowns

12:00 Noon  Lunch 

1:00  Treatment planning session

      Three groups will treatment plan complex fixed cases and discuss

      options 

      Models, radiographs , CT scans, photos supplied.

3:00 – 5:00 PM  Cast gold restorations lecture and hands-on

      Operating study club concept

      Diagnosis,  preparation,  laboratory construction, seating

      indications, and contraindications

      Occlusal, distal hollowgrond, 2 surface, three surface,  onlays,

      7/8ths crown, full crown, Cast gold bridges

      Marketing of cast gold 

Options:  Lecture on complex cases made easier 

      Diagnosis, wax-up and treatment planning, preparation and impressions etc

Lecture on restorative failures

     Failures of communication, and restorative dentistry and their

     affect on patients and dentists.
