COURSE DESCRIPTION

Implant dentistry is a modality that many general practitioners should have as an offering in their practices.  Even if it’s just placement of mini implants in the symphysis to secure an otherwise intolerable or bothersome ‘floating’ denture.  This course will get the new comer to implant dentistry up and running in terms of actually having a comfort zone and experience to place mini implants in the symphys or utilization of wide body implants to secure the same lower denture situation with greater confidence and longevity.

For those practitioners already experienced in implant prosthetics you will receive insight into more advanced surgery and restorations available through the fixed offerings of implant prosthetics.  Trouble shooting the implant placement and restoration is something that the GP needs to have experience and foresight to minimize the patients dissatisfaction, or restoring doctors frustration when implants are placed before proper planning and/or direction.  This course will be very hands on, but also very interactive to allow the experience and hindsight of three clinicians who have been placing and restoring their own implants to benefit the participants.

Just as important as learning the “how to’s” of implant placement and restoration will be the discussion of who and what to avoid in successful treatment planning.  Whether the attendee chooses to begin placing implants or not, they will gain a valuable education and training that will benefit their practices and patients.

Robert M. D’Orazio, DDS, FAGD, MIIF, ABOI/ID, is a 1984 graduate of the University of Detroit, School of Dentistry.  In 1987, he obtained a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Since his graduation in 1982, he has achieved and maintained his Fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Iacobelli’s dedication to dentistry and numerous hours of continuing education has enabled him to complete multi-year programs that include orthodontics, neuromuscular and TMD treatment for jaw and head pain, esthetic and cosmetic dentistry,

implant placement and restoration, and a one-year program for conscious sedation (intravenous anxiety control) which includes Advanced Cardiac Life Support.   He has also received his Fellowship from the International College of Dentists and the Midwest Implant Institute.

Ted Reese D.D.S., M.A.G.D., F.M.I.I.F., is known to many if not most AGD members of Indiana as he has had the pleasure and privilege to serve as CE and Mastership director since receiving his Fellowship from the AGD in 1990.  A 1984 honors graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry, he immediately pursued education in implant dentistry upon graduation, placing his first implant (a mandibular blade) in 1985.  A graduate and Fellow of the Midwest Implant Institute, he has also served as a clinical instructor, and Past President of the Fellows.  He received his Fellowship from the Academy of Implant Dentistry in 1995 and has enjoyed providing implant surgery and prosthetic services for his patient’s as part of a diversified ‘non specialized, non limited’ office environment.  Dr. Reese welcomes the opportunity to share his 20+ yrs of experience in comprehensive implant dentistry to his colleagues from the perspective of a ‘restorative’ dentist who understands the pitfalls to avoid, and short cuts to take in what can be a perplexing and cumbersome treatment option.

Dr. Reese practices full time in Indianapolis, Indiana where he sees many phobic dental patients who routinely elect to have their implant and other procedures under IV sedation.  His motivation is to have the restorative dentist leave this course with the understanding and knowledge to diagnosis appropriately and direct the surgery, or surgeon, for a favorable and predictable prosthetic outcome.
